The National Service Scheme was launched in 1969, September 24 in India. It is a central sector scheme under Ministry of Youth Affairs. In 2019 the NSS has celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
CH Muhammad Koya Memorial Government Arts and Science College was established in Koduvally constituency as part of the government’s project of allotting Government colleges to each constituency across Kerala. The college started functioning in September 2013.
The College was allowed an NSS unit in 2015 to strengthen the extension and social activities by the University of Calicut. NSS unit 155 of the college aims at personal development of students trough social service which is the motto of NSS. The unit functions under the University of Calicut.
NSS Programme officer and the Volunteers are the spinal cord for conducting social activities and the Unit has total 100 volunteers, 50 each from First and Second years in an academic year. NSS has Regular work activities for all volunteers and a 7days special camp for second year students. All Volunteers undergo orientation programs, training, leadership camp, and awareness class, social activities such as cleaning, pain and palliative service, relief activities antidrug campaign etc.
Each volunteer of NSS has to attend a minimum of 240 hours of regular work activities and a compulsory special camping programme for 7 days mostly during X’mas holidays. Those volunteers who successfully complete the criteria will be given 2 percentage of Grace Marks and NSS Certificate signed by the by the Vice Chancellor.
The NSS Volunteer during 2017-2019, Amjad Becker has been awrded best NSS Volunteer in University in 2019 November. He also won many national level award for social ctivities
Special Camps and Regular Works
This NSS unit functions under the guidance and direction of IKBAL KK current NSS Programme Officer. He is an ETI trained Programme officer took charge in 2018 June. We have conducted four special camps so far. The First 7days Special Camp was held in 2016 DECEMBER 23 TO 29 AT G L P SCHOOL KALARANTHIRI the programme officer was ANWAR ,Assistant Professor of Statistics. The Second 7days Special Camp was held in 2017 DECEMBER at G L P SCHOOL Chamal the programme officer was Abdul Latheef Kozhiparamban Assistant Professor of Arabic. The Third 7days Special Camp was held in 2018 DECEMBER at GHSS Pannor the programme officer was Ikbal KK Assistant Professor of English. The Fourth 7days Special Camp was held in 2019 DECEMBER at Gadha Public School Poonoor the programme officer was Ikbal KK Assistant Professor of English.
Milestone Activities OF NSS
1. Flood Relief 2018
The Volunteers, teachers and office staff collected food items and apparels for flood affected area“Keralathinu Oru Kaithangu” Flood Relief Collection at Koduvally, Thamarssery and Mukkam on 18/08/2018 for Relief camp at St. Sebastian Higher Secondary School,Koodarenji. MUkkam (Distributed at main camp St Sebastian Higher Secondary School Koodaranji. The Six Camps were running under the Deputy Tahsildar Thamarassery- Mr Manooj, Village officer Of Kodranji Mr. Ramachndran, Koodaranji Panchayath Mmember Jose Pallikunnummme) Volunteers helped in KOZHIKODE TOWN Hall and BEM School For Packing and Arranging Kits under DTPC and District Collector.
2. Pain and Palliative “Hridayrdham”
Volunteers extendee their help in Pain and Palliative programme “Hridayrdham” in Koduvally in 2018 October. Voluntters became solaced those bed ridden patients
3. Support for Athani Pain and Palliative Centre , Narikkuni
An exhibition and sales of art and craft works of the Athani was conducted at College in October 2018 in the college campus. I t was a great help to Atthani inmates
4. Flood relief activities in 2019
The Volunteers collected food items and apparels for flood affected area Flood Relief Collection at Thamarssery on Auguts 10 , 2019 for camp in ALP School Vezhuppor. District Sub Collector, Smt.Vigneshwari IAS was also present in the function
5.Blood Donation Camp
NSS volunteers conducted Blood Donation camp in association with Kerala Blood Donors Forum and District Cooperative Hospital Kozhikode at college in October, 2019. Forty students donated blood for patients. It was new experience in for students
6. La Fiesta Volunteers Helped in association with Lfiesta Conducted by Athani Narikunniy in 2020 February
7. First Aid and Disaster Management TrainingIt was organized a First Aid and Disaster Management Training in association with Health Care Foundation in July 2019.
8. Antidrugs awareness campaign in 2020 March in association with Health Department ,Kizhakothu Pnachaythu

9.Mass Sapling Plantation under Green Clean Kerala in 2018 December. Students and Teachers have planted three fifty Mnago, jackfruit and Sappott trees . The programme was conducted under District Panchyathu and Soil Conservation Dept. Kizhkothu Pancahaythu President Inaugurated the programme.
